The Edge of Empathy: Self–Other Distinction—The Missing Skill in Burnout

Friday, August 14, 2026 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Location: East Cobb/Marietta, GA

Empathy is one of the most important qualities we bring to our work as therapists, counselors, coaches, and helping professionals. Yet many of us were never taught how to remain deeply present with another person’s pain without absorbing it as our own, or severing from it through emotional cut-off. Over time, this lack of self–other distinction can contribute to compassion fatigue, burnout, emotional exhaustion, and a diminished sense of self.

In this experiential 1-day workshop, participants will explore the neuroscience, psychology, and embodied skills that support healthy empathy. Through discussion, guided practices from the work of the Realization Process®, and clinical application, you will learn how to stay connected to clients while maintaining clear boundaries, emotional resilience, and professional effectiveness.

This training offers practical tools for cultivating presence without losing yourself in the process and aims to sharpen empathic accuracy.

Open to all, and ideal for frontline healthcare workers and leaders, this program fosters resilience shielding against burnout, overwhelm and fatigue. 6 Core Continued Education Credits LPCAGA approved.
